The highly anticipated WBC super-welterweight title defense by Sebastian Fundora against Keith Thurman, originally scheduled for October 25, has been postponed due to a hand injury sustained by Fundora during training. Although early reports indicated that the co-main event featuring O’Shaquie Foster and Stephen Fulton might proceed, ESPN has confirmed that this fight will also be rescheduled for a different date. The entire event is now called off.
Following the cancellation of the whole event, Fundora`s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, told influential US media that Fundora is expected to return to the ring in early 2026. Given Thurman`s own history of injuries, it`s uncertain if he will still be Fundora`s opponent at that time.
If the fight had gone ahead, it would have marked Fundora`s third title defense. He previously secured victories against Chordale Booker in March and sensationally ended his rivalry with Tim Tszyu in July, dominating the Australian over seven rounds and solidifying his status as the premier 154-pound champion.
Meanwhile, Thurman made his comeback in March after a lengthy absence, defeating Australia`s Brock Jarvis in a rugged three-round bout in Sydney. Due to Thurman`s age and past injury concerns, there`s a real possibility this fight might never materialize. Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) desperately needed this high-profile event to boost its diminishing standing, and now faces increased pressure to find an alternative.
